Trader Joe's and Culture

This article articulates - in a subtle way - the value of creating and fostering a distinct corporate culture. In an age where retailers are struggling, employee turnover & morale in the tanks, and customer service continually lamented by consumers, Trader Joe's has found a way to succeed..through its people.

At the heart of Trader Joe's success is the culture that they have developed and maintained despite rapid growth.  As a frequent customer, I see that culture in action in every visit.  Employee's are consistently more knowledgeable, friendly and willing to go the extra mile to help customers and that's what brings me back and willing to forgo cheaper venues for my grocery shopping needs.

While a lot has been written about Amazon's purchase of Whole Foods and what that may mean to the industry, the Trader Joe's culture appears to be well positioned to respond to any threat.
